Sonic the hedgehog 2 is now in the cinemas, and the sequel sees Ben Schwartz taking his role as the iconic Blue Defocus of Sega. In honor of the premiere of the film, Schwartz and Comedy Central launched a new video of the “audition” of the actor for the role with producer Josh Horowitz. With a duration of more than five minutes, the video is quite ridiculous, since Horowitz shows little knowledge about the character and asks Schwartz to participate in a series of humiliating activities. If you ever wanted to see Schwartz dressed in a full Sonic costume, this is unmissable!
The full video can be found embedded below.
In a moment of the video, Horowitz insinuates that he does not want to hire Schwartz for the role of Sonic, but he plans to give it to his _parques and recreation, Chris Pratt’s coprotagonist. The joke is an obvious reference to Pratt’s main role in the next Super Mario movie of Illumination, and it is one that most videogame fans will surely appreciate! Video conclusion also sees Schwartz testing a series of additional roles in video game films, including Mario, Duke Nukem and even a tetromine.
Of course, Schwartz ended with the role of Sonic, and the actor has done an excellent job by giving life to the character in recent years! While many dubbing actors have played Sonic in cartoons and games, Schwartz clearly has a lot of passion for the character, and that is reflected in both movies. Paramount has great plans for the future of Sonic’s franchise, with a third already announced film and a Knuckles derived series that will debut in Paramount +. The future looks pretty bright for Sonic The Hedgehog, and it’s a safe bet that Schwartz will play an important role in it!
